Women & Theology
“The Bible is a mystery, so why try to understand?”
“Theology is for the pastor who went to seminary.”
“I don’t know how to read/study my Bible.”
Each of these statements I have heard come out of the mouth of a woman in my life. It sparked a deep passion in me that had finally surfaced - I wanted women to learn to love God with their minds.
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” - Matthew 22:37
As women, we love and feel very deeply. So, loving God with all of our hearts is easy to comprehend, and therefore, do. We all know Jesus wasn’t speaking about our literal organ that beats, rather He was capturing our emotions and feelings. He was insisting that we love Him with every ounce of emotion, passion, and affection that we could muster.
He went a little further in saying, “You shall love me with all of your soul.” Okay. That makes sense. We see where He was going there. He’s telling us to love Him through submission, commitment, and will.
Then, Jesus went even further by saying, “You shall love me with all of your mind.” Wait a minute. What makes this statement slightly more head tilting is that He was deliberately instructing us to use our brains. He was teaching us that knowledge of God was required in loving God. We cannot love who we do not know. We get this mixed up a lot of times, because we’re fearful of looking like the Pharisees - who, though they were trained in the Scriptures, were a bunch of religious fools that didn’t love God.
Trust me, I get it. It is a fine line, but it’s why we have the Holy Spirit as our Helper. He is able to pull us back when we lean too far into duty over delight. But God is a knowable God, and He makes Himself known through His Word! He didn’t leave us wondering what He is like or what He thinks about certain ideals. If we delight in the understanding and study of His Word then we will delight in Him.
This is why I created this survey. I wanted to hear from YOU - the women in my life - to get an idea of where you are at in your relationship with personal Bible Study, theology & Bible doctrine, discipleship, etc. This helps inform me of how I can begin to serve you through creating resources and tools that help you know God deeply, love Him intimately, and follow Him obediently. It is completely anonymous and only takes 3-5 minutes.
I would love to hear from you. Women have so much to offer the Church, and it is my desire that you feel equipped to walk out the thing God has placed inside of you.
